StatLib: applied statistics algorithms
A library of over 300 statistical routines that have appeared in the Royal Statistical Society's journal "Applied Statistics". The Fortran code can be downloaded from the page or obtained via e-mail request.
IDEAS: statistical software components
Part of the IDEAS project, this page lists statistical software components from the Boston College Department of Economics. This archive includes many downloadable Stata modules and other procedures. The archive stretches back from the present day to 1995. Users can browse by year or undertake a keyword search of the archive.
Econometrics Laboratory Software Archive
ELSA's aim is to facilitate the interchange of computational algorithms that have economic applications. Their website contains experimental software, algorithms, documentation and manuals. The site was last updated in 2003, so users may find more up-to-date materials elsewhere.
Netlib
The Netlib repository contains freely available software, documents, and databases of interest to the numerical, scientific computing, and other communities. The repository is maintained by AT&T Bell Laboratories, the University of Tennessee and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and by colleagues world-wide. Most Netlib software packages have no restrictions on their use but it is recommended that you check with the authors to be sure. It is possible to search or browse the site for resources.
MCS software
This is a guide to software packages for linear programming and other optimization methods, it includes packages on Access Grid technology, Globus, and other topics. Users may find the resources are aimed at mathematicians and computer scientists, rather than economists.
Mathtools.net
Provided by the software developer MathWorks, this is a gateway to hundreds of links on technical computing, including Excel worksheets, MATLAB workbooks and Java applets, especially financial applications.
GAUSS source code archive
As well as an archive of GAUSS routines in source code (.src) format, this page has many links to similar providers of code and information on GAUSS.
Enhancing teaching using MATLAB add-ins for Excel
Illustration of the application of MATLAB, as an add-on to Excel, to a classroom demonstration of an economic problem. Provides a link to the Mathworks site for ExcelBuilder. The problem is to determine when it is best for retirees to start drawing their social security payments, given that these rise in real terms if taken later. Cumulative payouts are calculated for three starting-ages, showing how a strategy of delay starts to pay off as life expectancy increases.
Mathematical Programming System for General Equilibrium analysis
Guide to the subsystem of the General Algebraic Modelling System (GAMS) that can be used to build and solve general equilibrium models. Sections (with gemoetric and algebraic explanation of the model followed by worked examples in GAMS/MPSGE) on: Introduction to Demand Theory; Constant Elasticity of Substitution functions; General Equilibrium with Phblicv Goods; Comparing the Performance of Flexible Functional Forms; Competitive General Equilibrium and Economic History; and a 'small library' of other microeconomic examples.
Trade network game
Instructions, software and articles relating to the Trade Network Game (TNG), an application of agent-based computational experimentation that shows how trading can arise in a community of buyers, sellers and intermediary dealers. Linked articles use the same technique to model labour-market adaptation based on individuals' search behaviour, and partner selection behaviour in other contexts.
